LeapFrog Design’s Estuary is a plant-powered greywater treatment system. On the outside, a modern planter box adds beauty to the landscape with native and ornamental plants; inside, plants and microbes clean greywater from sinks, showers, and washing machines for reuse in toilet flushing and irrigation.
First, lightly used greywater from laundry, sinks, baths, and showers is collected for treatment. Then, in the Smart Bench and Treatment Planter, plants and microbes absorb and break down contaminants, cleaning the water for reuse. Finally, cleaned water is ready for non-potable reuse in toilet flushing, irrigation, and other select applications.
DimensionsThe bench and planter modules are sized 48 in x 24 in x 22 in (LxWxH).
Capacity
Each planter module can provide 50 gallons of clean, recycled water per day.
Savings
Over 10 years, the average household saves:
350,000 gallons of water,
$12,000 in water costs, and
13 tons of CO2 emissions.
MaterialsThe module walls are made of glass-fiber reinforced plastic (GFRP). Plumbing components are made of PE, HDPE, PVC, and ABS. All other component materials per manufacturer specifications.
Power supply120 VAC, 20 Amp
Estimated power consumption±200 kWh/year
Average recycled water qualityThe Estuary system has been designed and tested to meet the NSF/ANSI 350 standard for residential greywater reuse:
